چکیده

The pattern selection problem in binary-mixture convection in an extended channel with a lateral through-flow is presented. The through-flow breaks left–right parity and changes pattern dynamics dramatically. The problem is studied based on computer simulation of the complete set of hydrodynamic equations (OberbeckBoussinesq approximation) in the two-dimensional rectangular channel with aspect ratio Γ = 12 and convection-suppressing lateral boundary conditions. A wide variety of new dynamical patterns is obtained, discussed and classified. PACS numbers: 47.20.Ky, 47.27.Te, 47.54.+r Typeset using REVTEX

Asymptotic Analysis of Binary Gas Mixture Separation by Nanometric Tubular Ceramic Membranes: Cocurrent and Countercurrent Flow Patterns

Analytical gas-permeation models for predicting the separation process across  membranes (exit compositions and area requirement) constitutes an important and necessary step in understanding the overall performance of  membrane modules. But, the exact (numerical) solution methods suffer from the complexity of the solution. Therefore, solutions of nonlinear ordinary differential equations th...

Nonlinear pattern and wave-number selection in convecting binary mixtures.

Considerable efforts have recently been made to understand and identify various spatio-temporal transitions from an unstable state to a coherently oscillating or chaotic state in numerous hydrodynamic flows. Oscillatory convection in binary mixtures as well as a variety of open-flow systems show a transition to spatially developing traveling waves (TW). For these systems a generalized Ginzburg-...

Onset of convection in Soret-driven instability.

It is common knowledge that light fluids rise while heavy fluids sink in the gravity field. The most obvious case is the isothermal Rayleigh-Taylor instability when a heavy fluid is placed on top of a light one. In the nonisothermal case, while heating from above, the density stratification is stable in a pure liquid. However, unstable density stratification might be established in a binary mix...

Unsteady free convection oscillatory couette flow through a variable porous medium with concentration profile

In this paper we have studied the effect of free convection on the heat transfer and flow through variable porous medium which is bounded by two vertical parallel porous plates. In this study it is assume that free stream velocity oscillates with time about a constant mean. Periodic temperature is considered in the moving plate. Effect of different parameters on mean flow velocity, Transient ve...

Effect of a marginal inclination on pattern formation in a binary liquid mixture under thermal stress.

Convective motions in a fluid layer are affected by its orientation with respect to the gravitational field. We investigate the long-term stability of a thermally stressed layer of a binary liquid mixture and show that pattern formation is strongly affected by marginal inclinations as small as a few milliradians. At small Rayleigh numbers, the mass transfer is dominated by the induced large sca...
